The Deputy Minister for Education in charge of General Education, Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has on Friday, 13th October 2023, commissioned the Achiase Cluster of Schools library for the use of the two thousand and seventeen (2,017) learners of the five (5) schools in the cluster.
The Hon. Minister was supported by George Ankomah, Lead Partner, Tax and Regulatory at Deloitte and Miss Akorfa Ama Akoto, Executive Director of Spring-UP Global Network.
The facility is the sixth library under the Deloitte WorldClass Initiative in Ghana. The Achiase Cluster of Schools in the Central region of Ghana has a total enrolment of two thousand and seventeen (2,017) learners from five (5) beneficiary schools namely:
- Achiase Basic School Asamankese D/A JHS
- The Asamankese D/A JHS
- Asamankese D/A Primary
- Asamankese T.I Ahmadiyya Basic
- Atobiase-Kyekyewere D/A Basic School
The project, which only started in August 2023, was quickly completed and handed over to the schools for use after six weeks of work. The fifty-seater library is stocked with over one thousand (1000) African-authored books to ingrain the African story in the minds of these school children. The modern library has a spacious reading floor for preschool children to read, learn and play. The various library sections are; a preschool corner, an African Writers Series section, and a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Some brain-racking games, including CHESS, are available in the library as well.
In his address, the Special Guest of Honor, Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Deputy Minister for Education, commended Deloitte and Spring-UP Global Network for partnering to provide library facilities to school children in the country. He said the Deloitte WorldClass Initiative in Ghana was an innovative project serving the needs of many children and teachers.
The Project Director of the initiative, Mr Eric Kwesi Oppong took the opportunity to commend the chiefs and community leaders for embracing the project. He encouraged the chiefs and people of Achiase to support the teachers to nurture the reading habits of their wards.
